What is cupping? Cupping is a form of therapy of using cups to hold pressure for a few minutes on an area of your body and by doing this it increases blood flow and circulation. This deep tissue massage brings stress relief and lowers inflammation in the body.

But the actual therapy session is only the first step, just like any self-care the do’s and dont’s of what to do after the time can optimize or determine results.

THE DOS:

  1. Drink more water than your usual amount. Water helps flush your system from all the toxins brought forward by the cupping procedure.
  2. Try to not be too cold. Try to keep the areas that were cupped warm to keep the tension gone and muscles loose as your body detoxes.
  3. Take it easy. Body aches, soreness, and even flu-like symptoms can sometimes happen after a particularly strong session of cupping. Listen to your body’s needs and react accordingly.

THE DONTS:

For a period of time after your session, there are some things you can avoid to optimize your results and care for your body in the best way.

  1. Avoid junk food. Avoid foods that slow down your body’s natural processes. Avoid high intakes of caffeine, alcohol, and processed foods while your body recovers.
  2. Stay away from extreme temperatures. Your body will be sensitive to fluctuating temperatures after your session as it focuses on recovery. Avoid extreme temperatures like hot showers, or strong air conditioning. Also, restrain from using hot tubs.
  3. Don’t exercise at high intensities. Maybe take the day off from the gym after your appointment. Just like when you work your muscles, your body needs time to recover from its cupping detox.
